2016 Russell Athletic Bowl Player Profile: Ahmmon Richards

A look back at an All-American season

NCAA Football: Florida A&M at Miami Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

This story writes itself.. Consensus 4-star on all major ranking sites, U.S. Army All-American.... AND still underrated coming out of Wellington. He had 1278 yards in his senior season, against great competition, and Rivals.com still had 13 receivers from Florida ranked above him in their final rankings. That didn’t stop Nick Saban from holding a spot for him on NSD before he ultimately put up the U from the gym at Wellington High School.

Richards hit the ground running in fall camp, where he earned significant playing time from day one. He scored a touchdown in his first collegiate game ever and never looked back. Week three he had his breakout performance where he posted 142 receiving yards against App State. In November he he three straight games of over 100 yards receiving against Pitt (where he broke his own freshman single game yards receiving by a Canes freshman with 144 yards), Virginia and NC State.

He finished the regular season as the leading freshman receiver in Canes history breaking a a 31 year mark that was held by Hall of Famer, Michael Irvin. He ended with 866 yards on 46 receptions. He was named a Freshman All-American by ESPN and the Associated Press. The way he is known to get off, 1000 yard after the bowl game is very possible. What do you think Brad?

Get your popcorn ready, we have at least 2 more years of this..
