Recruiting Radar: Weekend Recap 2/1

A look back at the weekend that was as National Signing Day approaches.

Robert Duyos-USA TODAY Sports

The final visit weekend of the 2016 recruiting cycle is behind us. Let's take a look at what went down:

2017 DL Jon Ford commits to Miami

While National Signing Day 2016 is this week, Mark Richt and Craig Kuligowski worked forward towards 2017 as they got 4-star DL Jon Ford (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) to commit to the Canes.

Ford is a powerful player at 6'5" 250lbs with the frame to add more size. For more on this commitment, and trust me, it's a big one, check the link below.

TE Jovani Haskins commits

It happened late on Thursday, but 3-star TE Jovani Haskins from NJ committed to Miami. This was a nice recruiting win for the staff, as Haskins was thought to be a heavy West Virginia lean ahead of his announcement.

3 announcements Monday

3 players with Miami as a finalist will be announcing on Monday. And they are:

3-star OT Tre Johnson, Orlando, FL: 6'8" 285lb OT recently decommitted from Illinois. Says Miami and East Carolina are his finalists ahead of a Monday announcement.

3-star DT Tyreic Martin, Valley, AL: Was committed to DL coach Craig Kuligowski at Missouri. Took an OV to Miami this weekend.

3-star WR Kelvin Harmon, Palmyra, NJ: This former South Carolina commit has good talent as a possession receiver. Harmon has said he's down to Miami and North Carolina State.

Where do I think those guys are going to sign? Click this link and find out.

Byrd's has high praise for official visit.

4-star CB Tyler Byrd visited Tennessee this weekend, and he had a glowing review. Reports say that Byrd called his visit to Knoxville "a 10". With Former UM coach Larry Scott recruiting him (Scott was Byrd's primary recruiter when he was at Miami) and best-friend/roommate/teammate/defacto brother Carlin Fils-Aime doing the same, Byrd certainly has multiple connections to the Volunteers.

Miami has been consistent with Byrd throughout this process, and hopefully that extended connection with this very talented player pays off on National Signing Day.

Romeo Finley to announce on Tuesday

The top uncommitted target for DC Manny Diaz and S coach Ephraim Banda, 4-star S Romeo Finley vaulted Miami into a 3-way tie with Georgia Tech and Clemson for his commitment.

Finley had an outstanding visit to Coral Gables this weekend, and the coaches have made it well known that he is a premium target at a position of need. AND, on top of that, the Safety position is the key to making Manny Diaz's defense work. So, that was a big selling point for the Canes with Finley: if you come here, you won't just be a player, you'll be THE PLAYER to make the defense dominant.

We'll find out on Tuesday evening if that recruiting pitch paid dividends.
