CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami junior linebacker Marques Gayot announced today that he has elected to leave the Hurricanes’ football program in order to pursue other opportunities.

Gayot saw action in three games, tallied 7.0 tackles (5.0 solo), 2.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks this past season. He missed the final 10 games of the year after he suffered a season-ending injury during practice.

As a freshman, Gayot played in six games and saw a majority of his action on special teams.

He arrived in Coral Gables following a successful playing career at Park Vista High School in Lake Worth, Fla., where he was named Defensive Player of the Year by the Palm Beach Post

Our Take: Gayot showed some chops as a pass rusher last season, before a season ending injury.  Projecting his place in 2016, it would have appeared he would be relegated to special teams/depth player.  UM brought in 3 game ready freshman LBs and has better depth because of it.  It would have been nice to see the converted S stick around, but we don't see this as a huge loss.  We certainly wish him well going forward.
