Miami Hurricanes 2016 Early Enrollees Profile: Zach McCloud

UM really shored up the LB position with this class, including another excellent prospect who is on campus already in McCloud.

6'3 215 pound Santaluces H.S. (same school to produce Vince Wilfork) LB Zach McCloud committed to the 'Canes in November of 2014, only to de-commit following the firing of Al Golden.

After meeting Mark Richt this past December, he decided Coral Gables was the place for him.

Good thing for Richt and UM, because not only is he an excellent prospect,  (Alabama, FSU, and Georgia among others recruited him hard) he comes into a LB corps that desperately needs depth.

Why were all of these other top programs so hot after McCloud?

Speed, instincts, and raw talent.

Check out some of the hits the 4 star prospect produced as a prepster:

Summary: McCloud likely comes into 2016 competing as a depth player/ST ace. I think he needs just a little more size to be a starting 4-3 type OLB.  But given his propensity to make plays, his future is very bright.  Again, this is another great pick-up by the staff.   And I can not emphasize enough how important LB depth was coming into this class.  As UM attempts to build towards becoming a top end program again, you can never have enough depth. McCloud could develop into a top tier player down the line, but for now he at minimum gives the coaches (and the fans) a little more security at a key position (one that was ravaged during the 2015 season with injury).
