The Miami Hurricanes were in desperate need of additional depth and talent at the Wide Receiver position in the 2016 recruiting class. They targeted some of the top players, and landed 3 of them. However, of that group of commits, and out of this entire class, one name stands above the rest as the Ultimate Pick Up for Miami:
WR Ahmmon Richards.
Richards, a 6'2" 175lb athlete from local Wellington HS is just the kind of player who can step in and positively impact games from the moment he arrives on campus. He has the height teams covet, the speed they fear, and the hands to catch anything near his body. Richards is a dynamic threat on the football field, and he looks to continue his elite level of performance for the Hurricanes in the years to come.
Over the course of his final 2 High School seasons, Richards caught 126 passes for 2,461 yards and 35 touchdowns. When you average 19.53 yards per catch, that's pretty good. And, that's not all that Richards was able to do on the field.
On top of also playing safety (and having many interceptions -- several of which he returned for touchdowns), Richards was the heart and soul leader of the Wellington HS team. He led the Wolverines to and 18-7 record over the past 2 years, including a 12-2 record his junior year, the best record in school history.
For Richards' outstanding play, he was named a U.S. Army All-American, one of the highest honors in all of High School football. As if that wasn't good enough, Richards was also named the Palm Beach County Player of the Year in 2015. If that isn't a testament to his value as a player, I don't know what is.
Now, Ahmmon Richards will be taking his considerable talents to The U. He will challenge for playing time as a freshman, and the ceiling for his future potential is immense.
Ahmmon Richards was the last player to commit to Miami's 2016 recruiting class, but he's one of the best. Some people like to save the best for last, and that's what happened with Miami's recruiting class today.
The foundation of the class was laid, and the majority of the players were committed and signed. But when Ahmmon Richards gave his commitment to Miami, the Canes finally had their Ultimate Pick Up for 2016.
