2019 Miami vs Florida football game close to a done deal

UF AD Jeremy Foley spoke about this prospective game today.

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

Ever since Florida took Miami off the football schedule, the renewal of that rivalry has been at the forefront of the minds of many fans on both sides of the aisle. Today, UF Athletic Director Jeremy Foley made a statement that would make it seem as though the wait may not be much longer.

Alligator Army, our SBNation sister-site for UF athletics, had a more full quote from the Gators' Athletic Director:

"We’re still looking on that game in Orlando with Miami. There’s a very good chance it will happen, but that’s not final yet," Foley said. "As far as renewing the rivalry, playing them every year, that’s not on the agenda."

...

"I’m confident it will happen," Foley said. "We still have to dot some i’s and cross some t’s on that. Hopefully, we’ll know something in the next couple of months."

That statement backs up this previous report by Matt Porter of the Palm Beach Post

By the looks of things, Florida is going to stop running and put Miami back on the schedule.

The Alligator Army post says "Foley has more leverage" than Miami AD Blake James in this proposition. That's true: Florida is the one who ended the series and ran from playing Miami after losing 7 of the last 8, and 8 of the last 10 in this matchup. I mean, I'd want to stop playing a team too if I only beat them twice since 1984. But that's just me.

(All shade intended in the previous paragraph)

Give me the time and place (Fall 2019, Orlando if this report holds true) and I'm there.

Let's do this.

Go Canes!!
