On Saturday morning just hours before the Miami Hurricanes were set to take the field for their opening game in the 2016 College World Series, junior RHP Bryan Garcia was named the National College Baseball Writer's Association Stopper of the Year.

Garcia has had a standout season for the Canes. With a 2-0 record, 1.95 ERA, .184 batting average against, 18 saves, and 13.62 K/9, Garcia has been dominant throughout the 2016 season. In the Coral Gables Regional, Garcia set the all-time saves record for Miami Hurricanes baseball, a record he continues to extend with every save (currently at 42).

A local standout from Miami's Christopher Columbus HS, Garcia was selected in the 6th round by the Detroit Tigers in the recent MLB Draft. Garcia won this award over fellow finalists Zach Burdi (Louisville), Shaun Anderson (Florida), Sam Donko (VCU), and Troy Rawlings (Washington).

Garcia is the 12th winner of this award, which was first given out in 2005.

Congratulations Bryan!!
