Last last night there was a lot of buzz about Juwon Young being dismissed at UM.
Well unfortunately the smoke may be a fire.....
This is not the news 'Canes fans were wanting to hear on a Friday afternoon.
Canes Insight's Pete Ariz and Barry Jackson of the Herald broke the story just minutes ago.
My story with @flasportsbuzz for the Herald - LB Juwon Young likely off the Miami team: https://t.co/IWDgBDDCfh
— Peter Ariz (@PeterAriz) June 24, 2016
The report cites multiple sources within the program.
The issue apparently is the use of a luxury car.
And what's worse, there is mention that Al-Quadin Muhammad is being investigated as well.
AQM is expected to be a huge part of the defense this year as one of the best returning pass rushers in the ACC.
Jackson does say,
"Multiple sources did told Ariz they expect Muhammad to be on the team this season."
So the 'Canes may have dodged a bullet there.
Young certainly would have contributed in 2016, competing for a starting spot at MLB.
So even if AQM is okay, this is still a significant loss.
At this point, things are not looking/sounding good.
Miami absolutely can not take any chances with issues involving possible infractions.

Could there be more to this story? According to Matt Porter of the Palm Beach Post, it sure looks like it
Miami has for months been investigating several players in football and basketball. More to come in my story.

Yeah, this isn't looking good.
1:45PM Update
Peter Ariz of CanesInSight.com went on 560 WQAM to discuss this story. Here is my live-tweet of this radio appearance:

Live tweet going....
Ariz talking about Young, who was slated to be a contributor.
— StateOfTheU.com (@TheStateOfTheU) June 24, 2016
Ariz "This is NOT an NCAA investigation. This is an internal investigation by compliance"
— StateOfTheU.com (@TheStateOfTheU) June 24, 2016
Ariz "from what I've heard, Young will not be on the team this season"
— StateOfTheU.com (@TheStateOfTheU) June 24, 2016
Ariz "This stems from a rental car agency."
— StateOfTheU.com (@TheStateOfTheU) June 24, 2016
Ariz "These (Young and AQM) incidents are isolated incidents. We don't believe these are connected"
— StateOfTheU.com (@TheStateOfTheU) June 24, 2016
Ariz detailing what compliance has to do. Basically, interview the kids and find out the details.
— StateOfTheU.com (@TheStateOfTheU) June 24, 2016
Ariz "Young probably won't be on the team because he hasn't been compliant" with compliance internal investigation to this point.
— StateOfTheU.com (@TheStateOfTheU) June 24, 2016
Ariz "Miami saying this is a violation of team/athletic department rules bc that's about all they can say right now"
— StateOfTheU.com (@TheStateOfTheU) June 24, 2016
Ariz reiterates that this is being viewed as an isolated incident. And, compliance is doing their due dilligence in this case.
— StateOfTheU.com (@TheStateOfTheU) June 24, 2016
Asked about Young's level of cooperation, Ariz said Young "basically didn't tell the truth" when asked about his involvement w/this case
— StateOfTheU.com (@TheStateOfTheU) June 24, 2016
Ariz says he's been told by multiple people within #Canes program that AQM will be on the team next year.
— StateOfTheU.com (@TheStateOfTheU) June 24, 2016
@TheStateOfTheU by next year he means this upcoming season, yes?
— Lord Pretty Franko (@Franklinaire) June 24, 2016
Worst case scenario for Miami is Juwon Young and AQM are ruled ineligible. I don't expect NCAA ramifications here. Compliance all over this
— Peter Ariz (@PeterAriz) June 24, 2016
We'll have much more on this story as we learn it.
