On December 30, 2015, the University of Miami announced the addition of Todd Hartley to the Miami Hurricanes football coaching staff. Hartley will serve as the Hurricanes’ Special Teams Coordinator and Tight Ends Coach. Like fellow Georgia Bulldog transplant Offensive Coordinator Thomas Brown, Hartley may be a Bulldog alumnus and former student of Mark Richt, but Brown and Hartley both took jobs outside of Athens to advance in the coaching ranks. He’s cut his teeth at West Virginia, Marshall, and Georgia, and now Todd Hartley brings his coaching knowledge and recruiting prowess to The U.

After graduating as a Georgia Bulldog in 2008, Todd Hartley wasted no time getting into the coaching ranks. In his coaching debut Hartley served as an Offensive Quality Control assistant for the West Virginia Mountaineers. The Mountaineers would finish the year 9-4 and ranked 23rd in the final AP Poll.

After a year at West Virginia, Hartley returned to Athens to serve as a Graduate Assistant under Mark Richt for the 2009-2010 season. This stint ultimately prepared Hartley for his first true coaching role, serving as a Defensive Assistant and Safeties Coach for the Marshall Thundering Herd.

At Marshall, Hartley moved up the ranks and found success as a recruiter. In 2013, Hartley transitioned to Tight Ends Coach and Recruiting Coordinator for the Herd. That following year Marshall would sign Conference USA’s top recruiting class, per 247Sports.

In 2015, impressed by his knack for recruiting, Mark Richt called on Todd Hartley again to return to Athens, this time to work as the Georgia Bulldogs' Director of Recruiting. During that season, Richt and Hartley composed one of the top classes in the nation. However, the fruits of their labor never materialized as Mark Richt was let go at Georgia.

Now, donning the orange and green, Hartley takes over as Special Teams Coordinator and Tight Ends Coach for the Miami Hurricanes. Along with these duties, his recruiting talent still shines. Hartley has been instrumental in many of the Hurricanes recruiting battles since arriving in Coral Gables. He’s been credited as a main recruiter for several signees from the 2016 recruiting class and has secured commitments for future classes. Those players where Hartley acted as a key recruiter are listed below, per 247Sports.
