Miami already has a very deep and talented defensive back group for the 2017 class. Big time names like Christopher Henderson, Trajan Brandy, Brian Edwards and Billy Gibson Jr. However, the coaching staff is still missing one key piece in 2017 Palm Beach Gardens (Fla.) safety Amari Carter. Who is the top safety target for the Miami Hurricanes still left on the board.
During the weekend of the Paradise Camp, the biggest recruiting event of the year for the coaching staff, Carter took an unofficial visit to the Hurricanes. That visit really helped push Miami ahead or on the same level as schools like Notre Dame and Auburn.
“I visited the weekend of the Paradise Camp,” Carter mentioned about his visit to Miami. “I loved it, I hung out with the coaching staff most of the time. In a way, that visit helped push them in a way, but I went to the camp already thinking highly of Miami. Right now, Miami is one of my top schools.”
Carter, a 6-foot-2, 172-pound prospect, recently released a list of his top eight schools in late July. The Hurricanes made the cut amongst many other programs. Like I mentioned before, Carter is the top safety prospect still left on the board for the staff. However, he is also a major target for other programs like Notre Dame, Auburn and more. While on his visit, Mark Richt, Manny Diaz and Ephram Banda made him feel like a priority.
“In my opinion, they did their very best. Whenever me or my family had a question, they made it a priority to have it answered. They had an accurate itinerary for me, which we followed with tours and meetings.
Even before his visit to Miami, he already had a great relationship with the Miami coaching staff. But an even better relationship with defensive coordinator Ephram Banda.
“I have a great relationship with the coaches. Coach Banda, Coach Richt and Coach Diaz. I talk to Coach Banda everyday, most of the time not even about football. Coach Banda has been doing a great job giving a full effort not just getting to know me, but also getting to know my family and organizations that I’m involved in.”
Despite the constant pursuit of Carter by the coaching staff and the close relationship between the two parties. His recruitment is still a tight one between both the Hurricanes and Notre Dame. The current 247Sports Crystal Ball has both the Irish and Miami at 50-percent; each sharing three of the six total votes.
