Miami Football continued to get itself ready for its’ opener on September 3rd Vs FAMU this morning.
We're just 22 days away from the start of the season.
And there are lots of noteworthy items to mention.
So let’s get right to it.....
First some good news (sort of).
Both Jermaine Grace and Al-Quadin Muhammad were back at practice today. Word is both will be talking to UM compliance officials sometime this summer, in regards to what if any roles they had in a luxury car scandal that landed LB Juwon Young an indefinite suspension.
It’s hard to speculate what if any punishment they could face (1 game suspension?) but the fact they are both on the field today, is probably indicative that they won’t face anything too serious.
Coach Richt has promised to update the media when/if there are further developments.
Stay tuned.........

In other news....
If the ‘Canes were looking for inspiration today, an all-time great was present......

Edge is still the greatest back to ever carry the rock in school history, if you ask me.......
Speaking of (potential) greatness, I think it’s time to get very excited about UM’s talent/development along the front 4.
Chad Thomas, AQM, Demetrius Jackson, and underrated Trent Harris are quite the DE rotation.
Scott Patchan is currently out with injury, but if he's 100% watch for him to factor in as well.
And the ‘Canes DT position could be among the most improved in the country.
R.J. McIntosh brings an athleticism to the position they have not had in a long time.
Kendrick Norton has "Baby Sapp" type potential.
And let’s not forget that this guy is now eligible.

310+ pound sledgehammers Courtel Jenkins and Anthony Moten round out what should be a very good 5 man interior unit........
In off the field news, keep an eye out for the ACC to announce an expansion to a 9 game league schedule in 2016 (sometime soon).
They met today, but reportedly did not come to any decision, but they will have to eventually.
ACC AD’s did not reach decision today regarding whether to play 9 ACC games/1 non-ACC P5 or 8 ACC/2 non-ACC P5 teams, source told @ESPN

As part of the league’s agreement with ESPN and the unveiling of "The ACC Network" the conference had 2 choices, an 8+2 format (each team would required to schedule two OOC games Vs Power 5 conference teams in addition to 8 ACC contests) or expanding to a 9 game league schedule.
The latter would make more sense given how many teams already have scheduled out opponents well in advance of 2019.
Personally I would kind of prefer 8+2, because it means more variety and less chance of ACCCG rematches.
Coach Richt seems to want 9 for what it's worth.
Last month I spoke w/ACC coaches. 12 of 14 want to stay at 8 ACC games, Mark Richt wants 9 & Dino Babers said he "wasn’t against 9"

But again, stay tuned.......
Word is, CB Ryan Mayes has stepped up his play of late. Coach Richt even gave him a few accolades yesterday.
And also this happened.. (though we heard that Joe Yearby caught him from behind before he scored).
Redshirt sophomore cornerback Ryan Mayes picked Brad Kaaya off and returned it for a TD in today's #UM scrimmage

With Corn Elder, emerging senior transfer Adrian Colbert, and Sheldrick Redwine all already playing well (DC Manny Diaz praised Redwine on Thursday), an improved Mayes would be quite the luxury.
The CB position is suddenly not looking so bad.......
In injury updates, FB Gage Batten reportedly had surgery and could be out for a while. Good thing the staff went out and found Marquez Williams........
Richt said FB Gage Batten will miss time to have plate taken out of his foot. Still holding a spot for him on 105-man roster.
