Another week, another win. Man, that feels good to say. Let’s recap it, shall we?
Canes silence the critics, demolish Appalachian State 45-10
A solid road performance against an App State team that will challenge for the Sun Belt Conference Championship gave the Canes a 45-10 victory, moving the Canes to 3-0 on the season.

Couple stats for you for the season and from the game
Wow again: Canes have 39 TFL right now. Last year they had 66 all season. Yowzers

Yeah, that’s good.
Miami true freshman WR Ahmmon Richards ran only 15 routes yesterday, picked up 142 yards on four catches.

An absurd 9.47 yards/route
Yeah, that’s good, too. Great, even. For comparison, consider this tweet about a top 2 yards/route number in the NFL:
As of halftime, Stefon Diggs has 3.32 yards per route run this season; 2nd best for wide receivers

Yeah. Richards is that dude. But, if you’re reading this, you already know that because I’ve been saying it for the better part of 2 years.
Miami is 3rd in Total Defense, allowing 217.3 yards per game. They’re tied for 5th with 13.0 Sacks, 8th in 3rd down conversions allowed at 20.41% (10/49 conversions), and 1st (by far) in Tackles for Loss with 40 — an average of 13.3 TFL per game.
I don’t care who you are, or who you played, that’s good. DAMN GOOD.
Next Up: A Busy Bye Week
This week doesn’t have an opponent for Miami, but that doesn’t mean it will be without important events.
First off, this bye week is a brief rest before a challenging — and potentially season defining — October slate begins. Due to the way the calendar falls, Miami will play 5 games in October: @ Georgia Tech, Florida State, North Carolina, @ Virginia Tech (on a Thursday night), and @ Notre Dame. That is as tough a 5-game stretch as you’ll see for any team in America this season. So, having a bye week to catch our breath before beginning that gauntlet is a good thing.
On top of that, Miami has several off-field events that will shape the future of the program this week. First off, the unveiling of the redesigned jerseys will take place at 5pm at The Rat on Monday evening. You can click this link for more about that event. And you can click this link for an idea about what the jerseys will look like.
But, wait. There’s more.
Miami is set to announce the new Indoor Practice Facility on Friday evening. The event, an invite-only affair at the Fountainebleu Hotel on Miami Beach, will showcase the new IPF, and formally introduce the lead donor: real estate mogul Jeffrey Soffer.

Either the jersey unveiling or IPF announcement would make a huge week. But Miami is going to have both in the next 5 days, and thereby keep the program at the forefront of local and national discussion.
Smart.
Add in the fact that several injured players will probably return to practice (hey there, Adrian Colbert), and this week should be a very positive one for Miami.
Man, that’s such a great thing to write. Keep it up, guys!
Quick Hitters
Other stuff you should be reading:
SBNation analytics guru Bill Connelly’s new S&P+ ratings have Miami all the way up to 15th. The Canes were 33rd in these ratings heading into the App State game.
Our resident coach Justin Dottavio aka Ironman Football took a look at the RPO’s that Miami used to slice and dice App State on that 2nd drive, and throughout the game.
Charlie Strauzer wants to remind you that Miami has a damn good basketball team, and they’re in the thick of the early recruiting period right now.
There’s probably more, but that’s all I’ve got for you today.
Enjoy the bye week, Canes!
