The Hurricanes are set to start conference play this Saturday when they take on Georgia Tech at Atlanta’s Bobby Dodd Stadium. The ‘Canes have played well against them in recent years, winning four out of the last five meetings.
If that is not encouraging enough, Miami’s head coach Mark Richt has coached against them every year since the 1993 season when he was Florida State’s quarterback’s coach.
His overall record against Georgia Tech is 21-2.
In fact, Richt has not lost a game at Bobby Dodd Stadium since he started coaching college football.
While at Georgia, Richt went 13-2 against the Yellow Jackets. Since Paul Johnson’s arrival at Georgia Tech, Richt has won six of eight. The table below shows Richt's record against Georgia Tech for the past 15 seasons.
Seasons | Results |
2015 | W, 13-7 |
2014 | L, 24-30 |
2013 | W, 41-34 |
2012 | W, 42-10 |
2011 | W, 31-17 |
2010 | W, 42-34 |
2009 | W, 30-24 |
2008 | L, 42-45 |
2007 | W, 31-17 |
2006 | W, 15-12 |
2005 | W, 14-7 |

2003 | W, 34-17 |
2002 | W, 51-7 |
2001 | W, 31-17 |
All these records do not guarantee a victory for Miami, but you can bet Richt knows how to prepare for Georgia Teach and its triple-option offense. It will be interesting to see how this Manny Diaz coached defense will respond to the triple-option and how his freshmen linebackers perform.
