Coach Richt addressed the media this afternoon, and although his segment was brief here are some of the highlights:

  • Coach talked about the weather a little, and called it “smoking hot” saying his team needed to push through it.
  • When asked about who needed to step up with Jamie Gordinier out for the season, he did not name specific players for LB, but did emphasize the team was thin at both the LB spot and on Special Teams,

“We don’t have much left. We basically need everyone, including on special teams. One interesting note, Pat Bethel our true freshmen DE was backing up (Jamie) Gordinier on our punt block team, and his first play in college he blocks the punt.”

  • On his defense in week 1, Coach beamed,

“Our goal is to be able to penetrate... guys were pursuing at good angles. LB’s were filling holes. We played a very strong fundamental game, with the kind of effort we are trying to coach since we got here.”

  • Coach Richt was also very pleased with his the blocking of his recievers, praising WR Coach Ron Dugans, and then later the players,

“One of the things I really appreciated and enjoyed was our WR’s blocking. You need to let those receivers know early on you block or you don’t play.. Ahmmon Richards took that seriously. Dayall Harris won our downfield blocker of the week. Ahmonn was very well coached at Wellington. Most freshmen do not know the importance of blocking.”
