Recruiting Radar: Which Canes targets & commits are visiting elsewhere this week

Checking in with visits elsewhere for players connected to Miami

Canes commit DT Jonathan Ford is one of several players taking visits elsewhere this weekend

Ok. So, we’re back for another week of Official Visits. Yesterday, I posted the preview for the players Miami is hosting in Coral Gables this weekend:

Now, it’s time to take a look at where Canes commits and targets are visiting that isn’t Miami this week. Let’s go.

WR Devonta Smith

This is the biggest “away game” visit of the weekend. 5-star WR Smith will be going to ALABAMA for an official visit this weekend. The Crimson Tide are the favorites to land this talent playmaker at current, and a strong visit there could seal the deal. Smith has maintained that Miami is a real option for him, and his connection to Head Coach Mark Richt (Smith was once committed to Richt and Georgia) is the main reason for that. There’s other visits to watch, but this is at the top of the list for a reason.

DT Jonathan Ford

This Canes commit will be taking an Official Visit to KENTUCKY this weekend. The Wildcats have continued to recruit Ford since his commitment to Miami, and Fords HS teammate DE Jordan Wright is committed to Kentucky as well. Throughout the cycle, Ford has maintained that he’s all-in with Miami. Yet and still, visits are worth watching. Miami gets Ford on campus next weekend (January 27) for those wondering.

NOOOOPE. Ford announced that he’s shutting down his recruitment, not taking visits, and sticking with Miami. So, HELL YEAH FUCKIN’ RIGHT!!!!!

WR Mike Harley

One of the fastest players in the 2017 recruiting class, Harley will be visiting WEST VIRGINIA, the team to whom he has been committed since June. Harley had a reportedly great OV to Miami last week, with the Canes still pushing for a flip. This week’s visit will go a long way to determining whether Harley will join the parade of SoFLA players who have gone to Morgantown over the last decade plus, or if he shuns WVU and flips to the hometown Canes.

WR Jordan Pouncey

A recent addition to the board for Miami, Pouncey is taking his talents to TEXAS for an Official Visit. Pouncey visited Miami last week and called his OV perfect. Miami is in a good place here, but will continue to put the full-court press on Pouncey until his National Signing Day announcement.

OL/DL Tedarrell Slaton

Slaton is a jumbo athlete who could play on either line. I think he’s better at OL, but Slaton has stated a preference for playing DT moving forward. The 6’5” 340lb Slaton will be visiting FLORIDA, the favorites to land him at this time, this weekend. With no visit scheduled for next weekend, this may be the visit that ends Slaton’s recruitment with a commitment possible if things go well.

DT Elijah Conliffe

This Hampton (VA) native is a player Miami has been engaged with recently. While a future visit to Coral Gables is possible, the 6’4” 305lb Conliffe will be visiting FLORIDA this weekend. Conliffe is fresh off a visit to Tennessee, and the Vols are arguably the top team for Conliffe right now. Miami will have quite the uphill battle on their hands if they want to get him in this class.

Those are the visits I’m watching this week. How about you? Let me know in the comments below.
