Newcomer Chris Lykes may be small, but his heart is bigger than his height.

Lykes may not have the most intimidating court presence, but he is expected to bring athleticism and skill to the point guard position.

The freshman guard was a prized 4-star recruit in Miami’s 2017 class hailing from Mitchellville, Md where he averaged 17.6 points, 4.2 assists and 2.9 rebounds per game his senior season. He also set Gonzaga College High School's career scoring record with 2,266 points.

Lykes was ranked 52nd on ESPN’s 2017 Top 100 List and he is expected to bring his intuition and tenacious defense to the lineup.

The 5-foot-7 guard is explosive, versatile and has the ability to finish at the rim. The ‘Canes will rely on Lykes this year to hit from long range. Lykes shot 47.3 percent from the three point line his senior season. His shooting ability combined with his ball handling gives him the potential to be one of the team’s leading scorers.

It could take some time for Lykes to find his place on the team and get comfortable in the system, but Miami is confident in his abilities. Lykes has the potential to be an instant contributor to the program.
