The Hurricanes welcome four-star power forward/center Deng Gak to the program.

The rookie was born in Egypt, but grew up in Australia where he played high school basketball at Australia’s Centre of Excellence with current Hurricane Dejan Vasiljevic. He transitioned to Blair Academy in New Jersey in the Fall of 2015.

At 6-foot-11, Gak is rated No. 16 among centers and the No. 91 player overall by Rivals.

The big man is versatile and talented. He can protect the rim, block shots and score buckets. He can help Miami put up points with his mid-range jumper if the coaches put him in the rotation.

Gak has been successful at every major stop in his career. He may need time to adjust to the game at the collegiate level, but expect him to contribute to the ‘Canes.
