Miami Hurricanes News and Notes: Canes stay undefeated, Primetime game on deck, Hoops gearing up

Some Canes notes to start your week.

NCAA Football: Miami at North Carolina Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

Good Morning, Canes Fam! Here are your News and Notes for Monday, October 30th.

Canes beat Carolina 24-19, continue undefeated season

It was another hard-fought game, but the Miami Hurricanes beat the North Carolina Tar Heel 24-19 to move to 7-0 (5-0 in ACC) and continue their undefeated season. We had all kinds of post-game content for you, such as

No, it wasn’t a perfect game, but Miami emerged with another win, and that’s what matters. Yes, there are things to improve, but even with that being the case the Hurricanes found a way to win a game that, otherwise, they would have likely lost.

In the game against UNC, SBNation’s Bill Connelly said that Miami used their get-out-of-jail-free card for the season. I’m not saying he’s 100% right, but I am saying he’s not 100% wrong.

In any event, Miami is undefeated and moving on to the next game.

Miami-Virginia Tech in Primetime next week

We’d been speculating about this for a while, but with wins in the last few weeks, the game between undefeated, #6/9 Miami Hurricanes and 1-loss, #13 Virginia Tech Hokies will be played in primetime.

Miami-VT. 8pm. ABC.

I can’t wait.

Miami Nights jerseys on deck, too!

Along with the 8pm kick time, Miami announced that the Canes will debut the “Miami Nights”/blackout alternate jerseys for this week’s game.

Wooo buddy those unis are sexy AF. Let’s go!!! #MurkSquad

Canes Hoops dominates “secret scrimmage”

College Basketball teams are in the midst of their so-called “secret scrimmages”, where they play another local team in a closed exhibition to gauge performance before the start of the season.

For the Miami Hurricanes, their secret scrimmage was a 101-50 win over USF. And, in the game, superstar freshman G Lonnie Walker IV had 20 points in 17 minutes. THIS PLEASES ME.

So, Walker dropped 20 on USF in limited minutes. Fellow-freshman PG Chris Lykes reportedly had 23 in another closed scrimmage. And Bruce Brown is back and looking like a potential 1st team All-ACC player and NBA Draft Lottery Pick. And Dewan Huell has gained 20lbs of muscle. And Dejan Vasiljevich and Sam Waardenburg both had strong showings with their respective National Teams over the summer.

Canes Hoops is loaded, and you better get ready for a great season. We’ve already started our Countdown to Tip-off here at SOTU, and you can follow all the preview pieces in our StoryStream here.

That’s it for your News and Notes today. Have a great Monday, guys!
