Talented JUCO CB and South Florida native completes flip to Miami from Alabama

4-star JUCO CB Jhavonte Dean has flipped from Alabama to Miami.

Miami got their man at CB today when 4-star JUCO CB Jhavonte Dean completed a flip from Alabama to commit to the Canes.

Dean’s route to Miami is a circuitous one. After attending Homestead (FL) South Dade HS — a school that has produced several Canes players in recent years — Dean, an lowly ranked prospect, went to Blinn College (Brenham, TX). In his 2 years at Blinn, Dean has developed his skills greatly, which is what you want to see from a kid who goes to JUCO.

Dean committed to Alabama in July 2016, and looked to be solid with that commitment for quite some time. But, when Miami started inquiring, things started to change. Alabama, who may be tight on scholarships in this class, started hitting on their DB prospects (shocking, I know), and combined with the added draw of playing for the hometwon Hurricanes proved to be the perfect recipe to get Dean to flip to Miami.

Standing 6’2” 180lbs, Dean has the size and length that Miami covets at CB. On top of that size, he has skills. Dean is a consensus top 10 JUCO prospect in this class, and was previously committed to Alabama (who has had the #1 recruiting class in America for the last 4 or 5 years running). Dean flipped to Miami from Alabama, and picked Miami over 10 other offers.

Dean is the 5th DB in the 2017 class for Miami. He joins CB Trajan Bandy, ATH DeeJay Dallas, and Safeties Amari Carter and Derrick Smith at that position group in this class. For an idea of the kind of player Miami is getting in Dean, you can check out his highlights below.
