Breaking: I’m told Carol City safety Randy Russell has committed to Miami. Hurricanes beat out Florida. https://t.co/oN2qvsHhyw

A hard hitting player in the secondary for Florida’s 6A State Champions from Miami (FL) Carol City, Russell is the kind of physical player that Defensive Coordinator Manny Diaz and Safeties Coach Ephraim Banda look for at this integral position.
This move might not be earth-shattering by itself, but Russell is a very good player who is widely respected by his peers. On top of that, it puts another physical player in the growing DB class.
Another bonus is that Russell is very close with 4-star RB Camron Davis — his HS teammate at Carol City — and the two have spoken openly about wanting and planning to play together at the collegiate level.
With 30 offers to his name, Russell is a top player who is widely being pursued by many top FBS teams. As noted in one of the above-embedded tweets, Miami beat Florida for Russell’s commitment, as the Gators had held a lead for the 5’11” 190lb Safety in recent days and weeks.

Russell is the 6th DB to commit to Miami in the 2018 recruiting class. He joins 4-stars Josh Jobe and Gilbert Frierson, and 3 stars Demetrius Ivey, Jalen Patterson, and Thomas Burns. He picked Miami over 29 other offers, most notably Florida — who previously led for his commitment — Louisville, Georgia, and Michigan.
