Here is the press release from UM Athletics:
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami announced Monday that defensive back Cedrick Wright is no longer a member of the football program.
“I talked to Cedrick and we both felt it was in his best interests to get a fresh start somewhere else,” head coach Mark Richt said. “We wish him all the best in his future plans.”
Wright, a native of Homestead, Fla., played in nine games as a true freshman in 2016, registering six tackles.
This move will open up more playing time for the 2017 signees in the secondary. A freshman in 2016, Wright will have 3 years of eligibility at his next collegiate destination. Should he choose to transfer to an FBS school, Wright will sit the 2017 season per NCAA transfer rules.
We wish Cedrick all the best in his future endeavors.
