Recap:
Game 1: Florida 1 - Canes 0 (Overall Record 2-2)
Jim Morris couldn’t have asked from a better pitching and defensive performance from his squad. Jesse Lepore threw six innings, struck out six and only gave up one earned run. That is an outstanding outing agains the number 2 team in the country. Unfortunately, the Canes failed to swing the bat and Lepore received his first loss as a Miami Hurricane. Defensively, the Canes didn’t make a single error and even with the Gators having 8 hits, the Canes made sure they left all but one on base. Relief pitchers threw great too throwing three innings, only giving up two hits and zero runs. The problem with the Canes in Game 1 was their hitting. They only had two hits and were shut out in the game.
Pros: Jesse Lepore (solid outing) and Defense (No errors)
Cons: Hitting (Only had two hits and were shutout)
Honorable Mention: Relief Pitchers (Threw three solid outings and didn’t give up a run)

Game 2: Florida 2 - Canes 0 (Overall Record 2-3)
In Game 2, I expected the Canes to come out with a chip on their shoulder but they looked the exact same as Game 1. Jeb Bargfeldt threw a great six innings, only gave up three hits and two earned runs. After this loss, Bargfeldt goes to 1-1 on the season. We also saw another three solid innings from our relief pitchers. Overall, our pitching has been phenomenal but they aren’t getting any help offensively. Our hitters, once again, failed to take advantage of runners in scoring position and were shutout. This cannot happen if we want to win games this year. The bats must heat up if we want a chance at a decent year.
Pros: Jeb Bargfeldt (six solid innings) and Relief Pitchers (No runs in three innings)
Cons: Hitting (Had five hits but got shut out once again)
Honorable Mention: Relief Pitchers (Solid final three inning not giving up a run)

Game 3: Florida 6 - Canes 2 (Overall Record 2-4)
In the series finale, the Canes showed a little fight by getting five hits and two runs but unfortunately they came up short once again and the Gators completed the sweep. The Canes had multiple opportunities to get guys across the plate but didn’t have the timely base hits they needed to get the job done.
Pros: Romy Gonzalez (2-HR Game)
Cons: Offense (left RISP), Micheal Mediavilla (Only 4 innings and gave up 3 earned runs) and Defense (Had 3 errors)
Honorable Mention: N/A

Conclusion:
This weekend was an overall embarrassment. Getting swept by a rival school flat out sucks. We have got to get our bats going if we want a shot at a decent year. It would be one thing if it was shootout all weekend but the Canes were almost non-existent in Gainesville and it cost them. This sweep puts the Canes at 2-4 on the season with no team confidence. Overall, our pitching has been good but our bats just don’t have their backs. The weekend really proved that losing guys like Zack Collins and Willie Abreu really hurts. We need a few guys to take leadership of this team and get them going. The Canes play FAU in Boca Raton on Wednesday so hopefully that gets the confidence built up.
