The Hurricanes lost game two of the 3-game series vs the #10 North Carolina Tar Heels 6-3 Saturday.
In the bottom of the second North Carolina struck first, as a two run homerun put them ahead 2-0 after the Hurricanes had missed two opportunities earlier with men on third.
In the top of the fourth the ‘Canes missed another opportunity, when two runners reached and were moved into scoring position by a sac-bunt, but a Greg Veliz strikeout stranded the runners in scoring position.
In the bottom of the fourth, Jeb Bargfeldt got two outs to start the inning, but then allowed two consecutive walks. The walks ended up hurting him as he allowed a two-RBI triple in the next at-bat.
In the top of the fifth Miami put together a response. Two singles from Joe Gomez and James Davison gave Miami two men on with no outs. Carl Chester then hit an RBI single to make the game 4-1. Romy Gonzalez then hit a hard grounder that loaded the bases. Michael Burns was then hit by a pitch to score another run that made the game 4-2. That was followed by an RBI groundout that made the game 4-3, but the rally ended with a flyout.
In the bottom of the sixth Evan McKendry struggled. A solo homerun gave UNC a 5-3 lead, and after an error in the field for Miami led to another run, UNC led 6-3.
After that the Hurricanes’ bats stayed quiet, and UNC took the game 6-3.
Miami out hit UNC today, and gave up just 4 hits to the Tar Heels, but UNC took advantage of their opportunities and Miami didn’t, and that ultimately led to the loss.
