The Hurricanes enter this weekend at 11-14 (4-5 ACC), and look to move back to .500.
Midweek Game - Florida Gulf Coast 3, Miami 0
The Hurricanes found themselves in a pitcher’s duel on Wednesday night.
Unfortunately Miami’s pitching staff allowed the only runs on the night, and the offense struggled to take advantage of opportunities with men in scoring position.
Now in the weekend series Miami will look to stay within reach of .500 and the ever-elusive solution to the problem of turning the season around.

Weekend Series - vs Wake Forest Demon Deacons
This weekend the Hurricanes are presented with a marginally easier ACC opponent. After facing the #8 UNC Tar Heels last weekend, and losing the series 2-1, a series win is needed, and Wake Forest provides a good opportunity to do just that, but the Deacons will do everything to stop Miami from turning it around.
Wake Forest enters this week with a 18-7 (6-3 ACC) record, and have won all three of their ACC series played so far. They are ranked in some polls, and are just on the outside of several others. If Miami wants to turn the season around they have to take advantage of opportunities like this. If Miami wins the series we remain within one game of .500, and a sweep puts us back at .500, but a series loss means we move farther away from the goal of turning the season around.
This is a true turning point for Miami this season. It is possible that the way the season swings hinges on this weekend. It is vital for Miami to get this series win and gain back some momentum.
To do that the pitching staff must improve. It is extremely hard to win games when the other team is scoring 7 runs, and with the offensive struggles Miami has had this season it becomes even more difficult to have success. Ultimately the pitching staff will probably determine the final outcome of the season, and both how they pitch, and how they are managed by Jim Morris and J.D Arteaga, will determine how they perform.
Hopefully the staff, especially Jesse Lepore and Jeb Bargfeldt as starters, return to the form they had at the beginning of the season, and hopefully the bats that we have seen these past few weeks minus Wednesday show up, and not the bats from the beginning of the season.
This series all comes down to if the Hurricanes can show consistency in all facets of the game, and they have struggled with that all season.
Prediction: Wake Forest wins the series, 2-1.
