The Hurricanes lost Game 1 of their 3-game series vs the Wake Forest Demon Deacons 2-1 on Friday night.

In the top of the second Wake Forest struck. Jesse Lepore issued back-to-back walks, and a slow grounder gave Wake Forest runners at the corners. Wake Forest then hit a bloop single to centerfield that fell just out of the reach of Carl Chester, as it bounced off his glove. Unfortunately as a result the two runners scored, and Wake led 2-0.

In the bottom of the third, Edgar Michelangeli reached on a bunt single, and took second on an error. James Davison then roped a double into rightfield, and Michelangeli came in for the first run. After the inning ended Wake led 2-1.

In the bottom of the fourth Romy Gonzalez led off with a double, but Miami missed a great opportunity to tie the game after two consecutive groundouts and a strikeout ended the inning.

Miami had another opportunity in the bottom of the sixth. Romy Gonzalez singled and then got pushed to second on a sac-bunt. Unfortunately once again Miami didn’t take advantage, after a strikeout and a flyout ended it.

The Hurricanes once again couldn’t take advantage of an opportunity in the bottom of the seventh. After Edgar Michelangeli reached on a hit-by-pitch, he was moved to second by a Joe Gomez sac-bunt. Unfortunately Miami couldn’t take advantage, and they still trailed.

In the bottom of the eighth, Miami got a rally going. Romy Gonzalez took third after a single, steal, and groundout, and Brandon Gali took first on a hit-by-pitch. Unfortunately Barry Buchowski struck out to end the rally.

Miami went quietly in the bottom of the ninth, and Wake Forest took the game 2-1.
