The Hurricanes took game two of their 3-game series vs the Wake Forest Demon Deacons 5-1, setting up a rubber match for Sunday.

In the bottom of the fourth, Miami struck first. Carl Chester led-off by reaching on an error, and then took second with a steal. Then Romy Gonzalez and Brandon Gali both got on base consecutively, and Miami had the bases loaded. A sac-fly from junior Alex Sanchez for his first career RBI gave Miami a 1-0 lead, but Miami wasn’t done. A balk then scored another run for Miami, and a wild pitch moved Brandon Gali to third, unfortunately Miami couldn’t come up with another run, and at the end of the inning Miami led 2-0.

In the top of the sixth Jeb Bargfeldt put on a spectacular display of pitching, after allowing a leadoff double, he worked out of trouble and didn’t allow the runner in.

In the bottom of the seventh Miami tacked on a few more runs. James Davison reached base for the third time of the night with a one out single. Michael Burns then followed with another single, and the ‘Canes had two runners on with one out. Romy Gonzalez then came through with a nice RBI single, and a bad throw advanced the runners. Carl Chester then connected for a two-RBI double to right-center, and then stole third on the next pitch. Unfortunately he couldn’t be driven in, but Miami’s lead increased to 5-0 by the end of the inning.

In the top of the eighth Wake Forest managed to plate a run. A single and a walk with two outs gave Wake Forest two runners on base, and an RBI single gave Wake their first run of the night.

Frankie Bartow struggled to start the top of the ninth, but settled in and closed the game, and Miami won 5-1.
