Miami Hurricanes Football: S Jeff James leaves program

A family connection wasn’t enough to keep this player around Coral Gables.

Jeff James

On Sunday afternoon, Miami Athletics announced that S Jeff James Jr. has left the Miami Football program. Here is the release on the topic:

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami announced Sunday that defensive back Jeff James Jr., is no longer a member of the football program.

“I talked to Jeff and we both felt it was in his best interests to get a fresh start somewhere else,” head coach Mark Richt said. “We wish him all the best in his future plans.”

James Jr., a native of Orlando, played in one game as a true freshman last season.

A nephew of former Miami Hurricanes RB Edgerrin James, Jeff seemed like the odd man out in the Miami secondary. The younger James will have to sit out 2017 per NCAA transfer rules, unless he transfers to a JUCO or lower division (non-FBS) school.

We wish Jeff James Jr. the best in all his future endeavors.
