Adrian Colbert has officially parlayed his tenure at the University of Miami into a NFL gig with the San Francisco Niners. Colbert was selected by the Niners in the seventh round of the 2017 NFL Draft.
Colbert is on the taller end of the spectrum regarding defensive backs. What is more intriguing is his versatility. He has the strength and fearlessness to take on the run game, as well as the intelligence and speed to cover and recover in the open field. The stat sheet doesn’t reflect the impact Colbert had on Miami’s secondary, as the Hurricanes’ safety duo of Rayshawn Jenkins and Jamal Carter got most of the love.
As he illustrated in his one year at Miami, he’s willing and able to do what’s asked of him, whether it be drop back in zone, hand fight at the line of scrimmage, or stay out on an island.
Colbert will likely contribute on special teams to begin his career. He has the measurable and skills that should translate to him seeing snaps on defense somewhere down the road. He could line up at either cornerback or safety based on his versatility.
