The Miami Hurricanes have been building an elite 2018 recruiting class. Those efforts continued and got another boost today when 4-star OL Cleveland Reed committed to the University of Miami.
2018 Lakeland OG Cleveland Reed has committed to Miami.— Erick Marrero (@ErickMarreroU) April 5, 2017
A standout from Lakeland (FL), Reed is a top player on the offensive line. Standing 6’3” 327lbs, Reed has size and length to play the position at a high level, which is what he has done to this point in his career. While he plays tackle in HS, Reed profiles best as an interior lineman at the collegiate level.
Reed’s strong play helped the Dreadnaughts (what a cool mascot Lakeland has) to a 8-3 record in 2016. He was their top offensive lineman, playing left tackle for the duration of the year.
Ahead of today’s commitment to Miami, Reed’s recruitment has turned recently. Long thought to be a heavy Florida lean — Lakeland is a pipeline program for the Gators over the last decade to 15 years — that softened after Reed took an unofficial visit to Coral Gables. And, I think that he was hinting at this back in a tweet from February 27th:

For Miami, this is another big recruiting win. Gator fans have been writing Reed’s name in pen in the 2018 class for a long time. And, well....NOPE.
A 2018 Under Armour All-American, Reed joins 3-star Delone Scaife as commits on the OL in the 2018 recruiting class. He committed to Miami over named finalists Florida and North Carolina among a list of 15 scholarship offers. You can see the kind of player Miami is getting in Reed in the HUDL highlights below:
