Miami Hurricanes ACCT Game 1: Vs Georiga Tech

The Hurricanes take on GT to start their ACC Tournament play.

NCAA Baseball: College World Series-Florida vs Miami Steven Branscombe-USA TODAY Sports

After ending the season on a HUGE run, including sweeping ACC foe Virginia Tech over the weekend. Miami enters the ACC Tournament as the sixth seed, playing No.10 seed Georgia Tech, Evan Mckendry (4-2, 3.24 ERA) gets the start for Miami, and Jake Lee (4-2, 5.51 ERA) gets the start for the Yellow Jackets.

Our Canes defeated the Yellow Jackets 2-1 in a series played back at the beginning of the season. At the time Georiga Tech was ranked #24 in the nation, but as the season has drawn on GT has disappointed a bit. The Ramblin’ Wreck has dropped out of the polls and all the way to 63 in the RPI.

Meanwhile in the Gables things have improved for Miami as of late. The Canes have risen from 67 in the RPI all the way to 47 in the RPI in the last two weeks, and have put themselves in a position to make the NCAA Tournament as an at-large by winning at least two games in the ACC Tournament.

The pitching staff has helped the Hurricanes on this run of excellence, with Jeb Bargfeldt continuing his dominance and freshman Evan McKendry providing several key midweek starts for Miami, with his midweek starts leading Jim Morris to tap McKendry as the starter for today’s game.

Carl Chester leads the men at the plate, going to Louisville Chester has a 9 game hitting streak, and is batting .417 in that time. In addition to Chester, senior Johnny Ruiz has been astounding in the last few weeks with a .343 batting average in his last 11 games.

Miami should probably win this game, which would put them in a great position to make the championship round. With the hot play of Miami as of late and the decline of GT it puts Miami in a great position to start the ACCT with a win.

Prediction: Miami 6, Georgia Tech 3
