On Tuesday afternoon, the University of Miami announced that RS Freshman TE Jovani Haskins was leaving the football program. The release from UM athletics:

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami announced Tuesday that tight end Jovani Haskins is no longer a member of the football program.

“I talked to Jovani and we both felt it was in his best interests to get a fresh start somewhere else,” head coach Mark Richt said. “We wish him all the best in his future plans.”

Haskins, a native of Bergenfield, N.J., redshirted for the Hurricanes this past season.

Miami needs players to replace 1st round NFL Draft Pick David Njoku at TE, and Haskins was in line for a great deal of playing time. He was reportedly on the hot seat in the past for rules violations, and this departure had previously been rumored.

Without Haskins, look for Michael Irvin II and Brian Polendey to backup starter Christopher Herndon IV at the TE position.

Haskins will likely find a landing spot at another P5 school.

We wish him the best in his future endeavors.
