With the second pick in the second round of the 2017 NBA Draft, the Phoenix Suns select...
...DAVON REED, University of Miami!
Reed is the first UM player drafted since guard Shane Larkin was chosen in the first round and 18th overall in 2013 by the Atlanta Hawks.
Reed, a 6’6 220 pound guard/forward combo, came to Coral Gables by way of Princeton Day School in New Jersey. He was a third-team All-ACC selection as a senior and averaged 14.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.4 assists, helping the Hurricanes make the NCAA Tournament in 2016.

He provides the Suns with a versatile “three and D” swingman to slot in off the bench at the 2 or the 3 when stars Devin Booker and Josh Jackson need breathers. Reed shot just under 40% from three in his career for Jim Larrañaga’s Canes and in one-on-one situations, Reed locked down his defender at a 33% clip, best in the 2017 draft class.
Reed comes to Phoenix NBA-ready as a 4 year contributor at Miami. He was the third senior drafted, behind Colorado’s Derrick White (Spurs, No. 29 overall) and Villanova’s Josh Hart (Jazz, No. 30 overall).
