90 Days until Miami Hurricanes Football: Top Cane to Wear #90

Miami legend and fan favorite Kenny Holmes is the top player in Miami history to wear #90.

Kenny Holmes

Kenny Holmes embodied the prototypical University of Miami defensive end in the 1990s. As a two-time first team All-Big East selection, Holmes wore the orange and green from 1992-1996. In his senior season, Holmes collected 10 sacks, and moved his way into third on Miami’s all time on the sack once he finished his career with 30 sacks.

Holmes ascended into the national spotlight for Miami, and was a first round draft pick in 1997 by the Houston Oilers. Holmes had three 7+ sack seasons in the NFL, and totaled a career high eight sacks in 1999 while helping the Tennessee Titans get to the Super Bowl.

After finishing his last NFL season in 2003, Holmes has stayed in the football world. The former Miami defensive end joined the University of Idaho’s staff as a defensive line coach in 2015, and recently the same position at Florida International University under his former Miami head coach Butch Davis.

Holmes will join other South Florida natives such as former Carol City coach Aubrey Hill and former Booker T. Washington coach Tim Harris Jr. on staff, and has already helped recruit local talent on the defensive line.

While Holmes will be sporting gold and navy blue on the sidelines for FIU this season as a coach, he will always be remembered as a legend for the ‘Canes who wore #90.
