It’s been no secret that Miami Hurricanes Basketball has been looking to add a transfer guard who would sit out the 2017 season then play in 2018. That search ended late on Thursday night when Mount St. Mary’s G Miles Wilson announced his decision to transfer to Miami.

A talented 6’5” guard, Wilson originally hails from Maryland and is making the leap up to Miami and the ACC after his year in the Northeastern Conference. As a freshman at Mount St. Mary’s, Wilson averaged 11.8 points, 3.9 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game with shooting percentages of 45.4% FG, 36.2% 3FG, and 74.8% FT.
Upon deciding to leave Mount St. Mary’s, Wilson had a number of high level suitors. He committed to Miami over offers from Auburn, Virginia, Gonzaga, West Virginia, among others.
Wilson will have to sit out the 2017-18 season per NCAA transfer rules, then have 3 years of eligibility left.
Miami has been burned in the past with transfers such as Michael Gilmore and Rashad Muhammad who came to Miami and were dismissed from the team before ever playing a minute. But, Miami has also had success with transfers, as players such as Angel Rodriguez, Sheldon McClellan, and Kamari Murphy all played major roles for the Canes over the last few years following their transfers.
With Miami potentially losing both G Lonnie Walker and G Bruce Brown to the professional level after the 2017-18 season, getting a player of Wilson’s caliber to be a sit-out transfer is HUGE. He scored nearly 12ppg on an NCAA tournament team as a freshman, and will figure to push for heavy rotation minutes in 2018-19 regardless of the rest of the roster.
This is a big win for Miami. Coach Larrañaga and staff continue to recruit from the HS and transfer levels with great success. Man, I love this staff.
