55 Days Until Miami Hurricanes Football

FIVE FIVE, DOUBLE NICKLES, Almost FIDDY... However you want to say it kickoff is creeping up on us. I mean, Fall camp starts in roughly 3 weeks.

We’ve had some nice players wear the 55 jersey in our history but the current ones deserve this article...

Shaq Quarterman commited to Miami in June of 2014 before even attending Junior Day and never waivered. He showed up to a UF camp in all Miami gear. How could you not love that?

The professsional way he handled his recruitment has translated on to the field and locker room for the Canes. When Mark Richt was hired his firstst priority was to go to Jacksonville and make sure that the Oakleaf linebacker knew how important he was to the class. When Quarterman enrolled in January of 2016 he hit the ground running. He was getting first team reps at the beginning of Spring football and has not looked back.

Shaq finished his freshman season tied for the team lead in tackles with 84 tackles. He also added a touchdown and 3 sacks. He was named to every Freshman All-American team.

For his sophomore season he will be the unquestioned leader of a defense that is expected to be among the nation’s elites. Many experts are calling Miami’s front 7 one of the 5 best in the nation coming into the season. Shaquille Quarterman is one of the big reasons why.

The anchor of the 2017 recruiting class was Navaughn Donaldson. Big Navaughn was a consensus 4 star and one of the best players in Dade his senior year. Like Quarterman, Donaldson was an early enrollee and started getiing first team reps day 1. He is already getting the “Great Wall of 55” nickname from some fans.

Could he be our second #55 in as many years to get Freshman All-American honors? I’d say Get yo Popcorn Ready bc he’s coming for those crowns...
