Let’s get it

NCAA Football: Florida State at Miami Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

Hey there, Canes fans. Let’s get the week started with some quick notes.

Canes Recruits start off senior seasons

HSFB is back in action, and that means the 2018 recruiting class got to put on pads and hit the field for the first time as seniors. We’ll have a recap later today, but here’s our preview from Friday ahead of the games.

The University of Miami: leaders in the sports world

A couple of things you probably didn’t know about University of Miami athletics:

First, The University of Miami was the first institution to grant athletic scholarships to female student-athletes back in 1973.

The “nickel” defense was first employed by UM Alum Jim Dooley (about whom I wrote for the 42 days to kickoff countdown piece) when he first started coaching. Once a sub package, the Nickel has become a base defense in CFB, and you can read more about it here:

Elite PG to visit Miami

Over the past few seasons, Miami Hurricanes basketball recruiting has been at a level never before seen in program history. Coach Larrañaga and company look to have that continue this cycle, and a big part of that could be 5-star PG Immanuel Quickley, who has Miami in his final 3 nad will take an official visit to Coral Gables in September.

Hurricane Harvey

Lastly, you’ve seen the news of the devastation that Hurricane Harvey has wrought on Houston and the surrounding areas in Texas. The people affected by this natual disaster could use your help.

Please consider clicking on this piece from the SBNation homepage, which has information on the many organizations to which you can donate for Hurricane and associated flooding relief.

That’s it for today.
