On Saturday afternoon, the ACC officially announced rescheduling of 2 Miami Hurricanes football games. Here’s the release detailing the changes, and the reasoning used behind the changes:
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – The Atlantic Coast Conference announced today that two conference football games will move to different dates. The Miami at Florida State and the Georgia Tech at Miami games will be rescheduled for Saturday, October 7, and Saturday, October 14, respectively.
Miami at Florida State was originally scheduled for Saturday, September 16. The Georgia Tech at Miami game is being moved from its originally scheduled date of Thursday, October 12 to abide by the ACC Football scheduling parameter that requires teams playing on Thursday night to have equal or full rest.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone who is feeling the effects of Hurricane Irma,” said ACC Commissioner John Swofford. “As important as football is to all of us, these kinds of events provide perspective when you’re talking about life-threatening events and the aftermath ramifications.
“It quickly became clear that it was in the best interest of our players, coaches and fans to reschedule next week’s Miami at Florida State game. Typically, it’s not easy to reschedule games, but in this instance, there was a clear path to adjust quickly and effectively.
“I appreciate the leadership at our schools and with our television partners as this process was seamless, and we were able to adjust in as fair a way as possible.”
So, to recap:
- Miami-Florida State has been moved from September 16 to October 7 (this was previously reported as being “likely” on Saturday). This replaces the October 7th bye week previously on both teams’ schedules.
- Neither Miami nor Florida State will play again until the week of September 23
- Miami-Georgia Tech has been moved from Thursday, October 12 to Saturday, October 14 (as stated, the rule is teams must have equal or regular rest heading into a Thursday night game).
With the FSU and GT games being officially rescheduled, here is your remaining Miami Hurricanes Football Schedule for 2017:
September 23 - Home vs Toledo
September 29 (Friday) - Away at Duke
October 7 - away at Florida State
October 14 - home vs Georgia Tech
October 21 - home vs Syracuse
October 28 - away at North Carolina
November 4 - home vs Virginia Tech
November 11 - home vs Notre Dame
November 18 - home vs Virgina
November 24 (Friday) - away at Pittsbugh
So, the balance of the schedule remains the same, with the FSU and GT games each moving.
That leaves the Hurricanes, and the Seminoles, to take the appropriate time off to assess and being recovery from the damages potentially left after Hurricane Irma. And, Pushing the GT game back to Saturday from Thursday night gives both teams full, normal rest heading into that key ACC Coastal matchup.
That’s it for now. Hope everybody is staying safe wherever you are during Hurricane Irma.
More later.
