Miami Hurricanes News and Notes: Canes win, Polls out, Duke on deck

Let’s start a short week with some news, shall we?

NCAA Football: Toledo at Miami Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

Happy Monday morning, Canes fans. Let’s get right to the news and notes for September 25th:

Canes move to 2-0 on the year, Beat Toledo, 52-30

After a sluggish start, Miami blew Toledo out in the 2nd half 42-14 en route to a 52-30 win in the 2nd game of the season.

Stefan Adams had your game recap

Matt Washington had your 3 stars

Josh White had The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

Justin Dottavio had your film recap with some really great stuff

I looked back at the commentary and analysis leading up to the game with the first installment of The Day After

So, after all of that, Miami is 2-0 and headed toward their first ACC game of the year. Forward we go.

Canes steady, rise slightly in rankings

Yeah, I know that section headline seems contradictory, but it’s the truth. After their 52-30 win over Toledo, Miami stayed at 14th in the AP poll, and rose 1 spot to 13th in the Coaches Poll

I mean, rankings are cool, and I like being ranked as opposed to the alternate. But, in the end, the goal is winning games, so onward we go.

Short Week on deck

Welcome to a short week for the Canes. The next game is FRIDAY NIGHT at 7pm in Durham, NC against 4-0 Duke.

For those who may have forgotten, this is what happened the last time Miami traveled to Durham to play the Blue Devils

As of Sunday night, Miami opened as a 5.5 point road favorite against the Blue Devils. With both teams undefeated and coming off big wins (Miami over Toledo by 22 points, and Duke over rival North Carolina), this game should be a good one.

While we’ll have plenty of commentary and analysis ahead of the game, here’s a key stat to know:

3rd Down Defense:
Duke 7/50 (14%) allowed. #1 nationally.
Miami 21/40 (52.5%) allowed. #128 (of 130) nationally.

Just save that stat in your brain for this week, because getting off the field on 3rd downs on defense, and staying on the field/extending drives on offense will be key for both teams. Mark my words.
