Miami Hurricanes Basketball: UM President Julio Frenk releases statement RE: FBI probe

Words on the subject from UM’s President

NCAA Basketball: NCAA Tournament-South Regional-Villanova vs Miami Aaron Doster-USA TODAY Sports

On Wednesday evening, University of Miami President Julio Frenk released the following statement regarding the FBI probe into corruption, money laundering, and wire fraud in connection to NCAA Basketball recruiting:

President Frenk’s statement confirms that while the University of Miami (noted as “University-7” in the complaint) nor any staff member was named in the complaint, there is an ongoing investigation regarding the connection between a basketball coaching staff member and a high school recruit.

As I said in my explainer piece from today, people put names out there regarding the recruit in question and were unequivocally wrong. So, too, have people put the name of an assistant coach out there on Twitter. Same as I did with the recruit, I will refrain from putting any name out there, on site or social media, until it has been confirmed.

This statement adds further context to what was initially reported. For an explanation of the complaint and breaking down the details and potential connections discussed therein regarding the UM Hoops, see the piece from earlier today, which I’ve linked below.
