Welcome back, recruiting fans. It’s time for another Official Visit weekend across the CFB world! Here’s what to watch for Miami, both in the Gables and elsewhere.
Miami Hurricanes Official Visits
4-star WR Marquez Ezzard. A big, physical WR at 6’2” 215lbs, Ezzard is a player who has been on and off and now back on the radar for Miami. The Hurricanes have zeroed in on Ezzard as the top (only?) option as the 4th WR in this class, and things have been trending up for Miami in a big way. Ezzard has taken other visits, but Head Coach Mark Richt had his in-home visit with Ezzard this week, and following that up with the official visit should be enough to fully seal the deal. At this point, it would be a surprise if Ezzard itsn’t in this class for Miami.
3-star CB Nigel Bethel. Once a backup plan — Bethel even said as much in several interviews — Bethel is the most recent commit after Miami finally had an open scholarship and pushed for his commitment. Bethel’s best asset is his speed, and he could potentially see the field as a returner as a freshman. Bethel is locked in with Miami.
Grad Transfer DT Tito Odenigbo. The Illinois DT will reportedly come to Miami to play in the 2018 season, and will be on campus visiting this weekend. Miami has yet to confirm his addition to the roster, but if this visit goes well, that should be quickly forthcoming, I would imagine.
Targets taking Official Visits elsewhere
4-star DT Nesta Silvera - Tennessee. Silvera has been committed to Miami for nearly a year, and he has been steadfast in that pledge. Silvera visited Gainesville last week, and will be coming to Coral Gables next weekend.
4-star DT Dennis Briggs - Florida State.
3-star DT Jamarcus Chatman - Florida State.
4-star LB Xavier Peters - Florida State.
Miami has moved up into the lead spot for both Briggs and Chatman’s recruitments. The pair will be in Tallahassee this weekend to see the Noles. Briggs has already visited Miami, and Chatman will be coming down next weekend. The Canes look to be in good shape with both prospects.
Peters is a late addition to the board for Miami, but it remains to be seen if the Canes push for a 2nd LB in this class. Peters, who is committed to Kentucky, will see the sights in Tallhassee before coming to Coral Gables for a visit next weekend. There have been rumors about Peters’ grades, so he’s not a given for this class for Miami.
5-star CB Patrick Surtain Jr. - Clemson. Along with teammate 5-star CB Tyson Campbell, Surtain Jr. is an elite CB prospect who could go anywhere in America. Surtain has visited LSU and Alabama the past 2 weeks, and goes to Clemson this week. Surtain Jr. has said he will likely visit Coral Gables next weekend, so that’s positive. But, he hasn’t taken that visit to Miami yet, so keep an eye out.
Surtain Jr. did, hoever, take an unofficial visit to Miami for a recent basketball game, so there is a connection there. How much remains to be seen. Even with all that, most believe LSU to be Surtain Jr’s landing spot.
5-star CB Tyson Campbell - Tennessee. This is a change, as Campbell wasn’t initially scheduled to go on a visit this weekend. However, he’s in Knoxville, visiting Jeremy Pruitt’s Volunteers.

Miami is trailing Georgia in the recruitment of Campbell by most accounts, with Alabama also involved. Campbell is scheduled to visit Coral Gables next weekend, a time at which Miami will make their final push for the elite CB.
Miami targets 4-star DT Keondre Coburn, 4-star DE Andrew Chatfield, and 5-star CB Tyson Campbell are not expected to take visits anywhere this weekend. This is recruiting so that could change, but that’s where things stand as of now.
That’s the OV landscape for this weekend. Vote in the poll, and hop in the comments too!
