Miami Hurricanes Rooting Guide: Week 8

New, comments

Canes are on a bye this week, which means we’re 100% rootin’ against....uh....for...ACC teams this weekend

What’s good, Canes fam? No, we’re not here to talk about Canes stuff, we’re here to set the slate of ACC games, and figure out who Miami fans should root for. Or against. Same thing, really.

It’s a light week in the ACC this week, with 6 teams, include the Canes, on their bye weeks, and the other 8 teams playing each other. So yeah, only 4 games on this week’s rooting guide. But that’s enough to still have some impactful and important games to follow.

With no further preamble, here’s the Week 8 Miami Hurricanes rooting guide:

Saturday, October 20

North Carolina Tar Heels (1-4, 1-2 ACC) at Syracuse Orange (4-2, 1-2 ACC), 12:20pm, Raycom/ACC regional affiliates

North Carolina is bad, and Miami already beat them by a million. Even if UNC were to win, they wouldn’t really impact Miami’s strength of schedule, because they’re not going to be bowl eligible at the end of the year, anyway.

On the other side of things, Syracuse took Clemson to the brink 2 weeks ago before a bad, bad letdown loss to Pitt in overtime a week ago. Dino Babers is building a nice team in upstate New York, and they should get back on track this week.

Who to root for: Syracuse.

Virginia Cavaliers (4-2, 2-1 ACC) at Duke Blue Devils (5-1, 1-1 ACC), 12:30pm, RSN

Oh, ACC Coastal. I didn’t miss you, yet you’re back to full #ChaosCoastal status already.

Miami lost to Virginia last week. Yeah yeah yeah, but that puts the Cavs in a tie for 2nd the Coastal with Miami, and Pitt (both on byes this week) at 2-1 in conference. A win for them puts the Cavs in sole possession of 2nd place, behind 3-0 Virginia Tech.

Duke is only a game back at 1-1, and could insert themselves into the conversation with a win this week.

Both of these teams are Miami’s competition in the Coastal, but with Virginia having a head-to-head win over Miami, and Miami-Duke coming up later this year, the choice is clear to me.

Who to root for: Duke.

NC State Wolfpack (5-0, 2-0 ACC) at Clemson Tigers (6-0, 3-0 ACC), 3pm, ESPN

Woo buddy. Headline game of the week in the ACC. Welcome to Textile Bowl week, you guys!

NC State is 5-0 and looking to FINALLY dethrone Clemson after 2 straight 7-point losses to the 3-time defending ACC Champions. Overall, Clemson has won the last 6 games in this annual rivalry game, and 13 of the last 14, with NC State winning the 2011 contest 37-13.

Everybody knows Clemson’s resume. 4-time defending Atlantic Division Champions. 3-time defending ACC champions. 2017 National Champions. 3 consecutive College Football Playoff appearances. Loaded roster. Superstar freshman QB.

I know NC State kept the Textile Bowl close in the last 2 years, and I hope they do this year, I just don’t think that happens.

Who to root for: NC State (but know and understand that Clemson is likely going to flex on them)

Wake Forest Demon Deacons (3-3, 0-2 ACC) at Florida State Seminoles (3-3, 1-3 ACC), 7pm, ESPN2

I’m not even going to waste a lot of words here. I’m petty.

Who to root for: WAKE FOREST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That’s who Canes fans should root for this week in the ACC.
