On Monday afternoon, the ACC announced their weekly awards for week 5. And, for their efforts during Miami’s 47-10 demolition of North Carolina, Defensive End Joe Jackson and Linebacker Shaquille Quarterman were named ACC Defensive Lineman and Co-Linebacker of the week, respectively.

Here’s a bit more on this from Miami Athletics:

CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- A pair of Hurricanes were recognized by the Atlantic Coast Conference for outstanding performances in Miami’s 47-10 win over North Carolina on Sept. 27.

Junior Joe Jackson was selected as the ACC’s Defensive Lineman of the Week, while junior Shaq Quarterman earned ACC Co-Linebacker of the Week honors.

Jackson put together one of the most dominant performances of his career in Miami’s ACC opener. The Homestead, Fla., native totaled five tackles, one sack and two forced fumbles. Jackson added the second touchdown of his career on a 42-yard interception return, one of three defensive scores for the Hurricanes in the victory.

Making his 31st consecutive start at linebacker, Quarterman was all over the field for Miami in an impressive outing. The Orange Park, Fla., native set a career mark with three tackles for loss and added two sacks in the victory, including one strip-sack that resulted in Miami’s first defensive touchdown. He also added one PBU.

Jackson and Quarterman join Gerald Willis III, who was named ACC Defensive Lineman of the Week on Sept. 4, as honorees through the first five weeks of the season.

Simply put, Jackson and Quarterman are elite players at their respective positions, and they demonstrated their many talents during Miami’s blowout win over North Carolina.

Congrats to Joe and Shaq for their weekly awards.

Now, back to Florida State week.
