Florida College Football Power Rankings: Week 8

The Hurricanes fall while the Gators rise.

NCAA Football: Central Florida at Memphis Justin Ford-USA TODAY Sports

Week 7 was crazy for the Florida teams. While multiple teams survived late game scares, the Miami Hurricanes fell with mismanagement and offensive struggles. With such, the week 8 game sees important games in deciding positioning in the respective conferences.

#1. UCF Knights (LW: 1), Week 7 Result: 31-30 W @ Memphis, Next Week: @ East Carolina

The UCF Knights are the best team in Florida, point blank. Despite trailing 30-17 at halftime, the Knights were able to completely control the second half of the game and complete the 13 point second half comeback. Among the top performers was Gabriel Davis, who caught 6 passes for 128 yards and a touchdown reception.

#2. Florida Gators (LW: 2), Week 7 Result: 37-27 W @ Vanderbilt, Next Week: BYE

Maybe the Florida Gators are back. After defeating LSU, the Gators defeated Vanderbilt on the road, making it 5 straight wins for Dan Mullen and the Gators. After a bye week, the Gators will face their toughest test as the year as they battle against the Georgia Bulldogs in their yearly rivalry game.

#3. South Florida Bulls (LW: 4), Week 7 Result: 25-24 W @ Tulsa, Next Week: vs. Connecticut

Like the Gators, USF is hot and have not lost yet this season. Last week, the Bulls were able to survive Tulsa thanks in part to 158 yards from Jordan Cronkrite on the ground. While the Bulls will need to win a game more convincingly, the Bulls being undefeated puts them in the 3rd position.

#4. Miami Hurricanes (LW: 2), Week 7 Result: 16-13 L @ Virginia, Next Week: BYE

There’s trouble brewing in paradise. After surviving a scare against Florida State, the Hurricanes struggled all-day against Virginia, eventually losing their second game of the season. Despite the defenses dominance, the offense was unable to get anything going with N’Kosi Perry or Malik Rosier under center. The Hurricanes will be on a bye week before traveling to Massachusetts to play Boston College.

#5. FIU Panthers (LW: 6), Week 7 Result: 24-20 W @ Middle Tennessee State, Next Week: @ Rice

If Milton is the best quarterback in Florida, James Morgan is a close second. In week 7, Morgan threw for 311 yards and 2 touchdowns and helped the Panthers defeat a hot Middle Tennessee State team at home. For now, they are the team to beat in the C-USA East.

#6. Florida Atlantic Owls (LW: 5), Week 7 Result: BYE, Next Week: @ Marshall

After a week of dominance against Old Dominion, the Owls got tragic news this week as the Owls’ defense lost star linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair for the season because of a torn ACL. Despite this, the Owls will still have to travel to Marshall and play a Thundering Herd team that are coming off a 42-20 victory over Old Dominion.

#7. Florida State Seminoles (LW: 7), Week 7 Result: BYE, Next Week: vs. Wake Forest

It’s hard to come up with new things to say about the Seminoles after a bye week. However, it needs to be noted how important this game is for the Seminoles. After this game against Wake Forest, the Seminoles will face off against Clemson, NC State, Notre Dame, Boston College and Florida. Sitting at 3-3, the Seminoles need to get some wins together or a bowl game will not be in the forecast for the Seminoles.
