On Tuesday afternoon, the University of Miami announced that QB Cade Weldon is suspended for 4 games. Here’s the release from Miami Athletics:
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami football program announced Tuesday that redshirt freshman quarterback Cade Weldon will miss four games, which includes this past Saturday’s game against Florida State in addition to the next three games, due to a violation of team rules.
Already 3rd on the depth chart, Weldon is doing himself no favors with this violation and the resultant suspension. The son of former FSU QB Casey Weldon, Cade has talent, but is clearly behind players such as N’Kosi Perry and Jarren Williams, though the latter is likely going to redshirt this season, in the long-term plan at QB for Miami.
As stated in the release from Miami Athletics, Weldon’s suspension started with the FSU game. He will miss future games against Virginia, Boston College, and Duke before being eligible to return against Georgia Tech in November.
With Weldon suspended, the QB depth chart is as follows:
- N’Kosi Perry
- Malik Rosier
- Jarren Williams
Let’s hope Weldon takes this suspension in stride and grows as a person and a player moving forward.
