‘Canes Faced with a Must-Win Game This Saturday, Led by an inconsistent Quarterback

Going on the road to play a conference opponent is never easy, but Miami has to take care of business at home in order to keep their Coastal title dreams alive.

Miami has fallen in back-to-back road contests since their victory against Florida State, and desperately need to get back on track with a victory. With Duke having been defeated by Virginia as well, both teams need a win to preserve their dreams of reaching the ACC Championship Game.

It has been a rough few weeks for ‘Cane fans, as the Florida State ‘hangover’ has caught up with the team. Against Virginia and Boston College, the urgency and energy haven’t been there. The offense has been incredibly sluggish despite the defense forcing turnovers, scoring a combined 30 measly points in the last 2 games.

Similar to last Friday, Miami’s opponent boasts the same regular season record as they do. Also similar to last week, Malik Rosier has been named the starting quarterback.

The harsh truth is that Malik Rosier hasn’t beaten nor played well against a Power 5 opponent since 2017 when Miami defeated Virginia at home. Richt claims that his maturity and knowledge of the playbook gives us the best chance to win, but the results show something different. Not only have the ‘Canes lost the majority of their last Power 5 matchups, but have continuously crumbled when Malik Rosier is at the helm. The last time Malik played well was when the ‘Canes visited Toledo, winning the game 49-24.

Despite Malik Rosier not having the same accuracy or arm strength that N’Kosi Perry possesses, Richt still can’t let go. However, for the sake of the team and season, we have to hope that Rosier plays well, regardless of how unlikely that may seem.

Looking past the quarterback situation, Miami has a bevy of issues but needs to pull out a solid performance at home. With the crowd on their side, motivation shouldn’t be hard to come by for this Hurricane squad. The ‘Canes must win this game though, as falling at home to an inferior opponent would surely kill the morale that remains, and deem this season as a ‘disaster.’
