It’s infrequent that we talk about Track and Field here at State of the U, but when something as awesome as this happens, we have to.
On Tuesday afternoon, actor Kevin Hart (you know him) took to Twitter. In the video post, Hart, who owns a gym in the Los Angeles area, provided the platform for dominant runner Deanna Nowling to make her college commitment. And, well, you probably know how this is going to go:
thank you to all who recruited me i am overwhelmed by the belief in me! however i had to come to a decision. thankful god has blessed me with the wonderful gift. i am proud to announce i will be spending my next 4 yrs @ UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI!! pic.twitter.com/1dgftGf4Y9

And, just like that, Canes Track got one of the best athletes in America to commit to come across the country to learn, run, and (hopefully) win as a Cane.
As you can see in the cover picture to this piece, Nowling specializes in the 100M and 200M. While Nowling is good at the 200M — #4 in California and #22 in the Nation this past season — where she dominates is the 100M. Nowling is the top ranked 100M runner in California, and #4 in the Nation. And I’m not just saying that: Nowling won the 2018 California State Championship in the 100M so that’s a verified fact.
So Nowling wins championships, hangs with Kevin Hart, and is now committed to coming to the U.
That’s pretty cool, if you ask me.
