The University of Miami Athletic Department announced Wednesday that redshirt freshman forward Deng Gak’s knee injury sustained against Yale on December 1st would require surgery, putting one of the Canes few frontcourt players out of action for the season. Gak will go under the knife this upcoming Tuesday, and the recovery time is expected to be around six months.
The Sydney, Australia native was averaging 2.5 points and 4.1 rebounds so far this season as the Canes deal with the absence of junior center and 2017-18 leading scorer Dewan Hernandez, who is currently being held out while his eligibility is being reviewed.
The Canes are currently on break for final exams, and will return to the court December 19th against Houston Baptist. We wish Deng Gak a speedy recovery.
