Miami Hurricanes Recruiting Radar: LB Sam Brooks decommits from the Canes

More attrition after the news that Manny Diaz is heading to Temple

Miami Northwestern LB Sam Brooks has decommitted from Miami.

Shortly after multiple reports surfaced indicating that Miami Hurricanes Defensive Coordinator and Linebackers coach Manny Diaz had accepted the Head Coaching job at Temple University, Miami (FL) Northwestern 3-star OLB Sam Brooks decommitted from the Canes.

Brooks, the nephew of former Cane Nate Brooks, recovered from a bad knee injury in 2017 — he tore his MCL and ACL — to have a dominant senior season in 2018. Brooks helped lead Northwestern to a 2nd consecutive 6A State Championship, and had a strip sack that he returned 56 yards for a TD in the game.

Miami stuck with Brooks even in the aftermath of his injury, but that matters not at this point. The coach who had recruited him is on the way out, and so now Brooks is back as a free agent. He stated Miami is still an option moving forward, so all is not lost. However, the hire at LB coach and DC — either separately or together — will play a major role in the future of Brooks’ connection to Miami.

As always, we respect Brooks’ decision and wish him the best moving forward.

We’ll have more on Miami Hurricanes recruiting in the coming days.
