Miami Hurricanes News and Notes — Signing Day Eve

Tomorrow is the first day the 2019 class can sign a LOI

Andrew Ivins, 247 Sports

Happy Tuesday, Canes fans.

The early signing period for high school seniors begins tomorrow and Miami is hoping to get some good news regarding 4-star DB Tyrique Stevenson who will announce his college destination. Stevenson will be choosing between Miami and Georgia. The Bulldogs have been the long time favorites but the Hurricanes gave a final push over the weekend and some seem to feel confident that he will be a Hurricane.

Miami seems to be gaining traction for OT Adam ElGammal, a Cincinnati commit from New York listed at 6-5 260 lbs. Miami insider Andrew Ivins and Steve Wiltfong, Director of Recruiting for 247Sports, put in predictions for him to flip to the Hurricanes. ElGammel took an official visit this past weekend and plans to sign in February. But, anything can happen on Signing Day.

Miami should also be finding out the intentions of RB transfer Asa Martin and OT Tommy Kennedy on Wednesday as well. The Canes have to feel like they're in a good spot to land both of those signatures. Martin and Kennedy both visited this past weekend as well.

Don’t forget to sign up for State of the U’s text alerts for real-time updates on who’s paperwork has been faxed to the Canes staff. You can sign up at the link below:

Among those expected to sign early for Miami:

DT Jason Blissett (Poly Prep)

TE Larry Hodges (Tampa Jesuit)

DB Keontra Smith (Chaminade-Madonna)

DB Te’Cory Couch (Chaminade-Madonna)

DE Cameron Williams (Chaminade-Madonna)

WR Jeremiah Payton (Fletcher)

LB Sam Brooks (Miami Northwestern)

DT Jalar Holley (Buford)

DE Jahfari Harvey (Vero Beach)

LB Avery Huff (St. Thomas Aquinas)

DT Jason Muñoz (St. Thomas Aquinas)

OL Jakai Clark (Grayson)

In other recruiting news, 4-star DE Adisa Issac committed to Penn State over Miami. Cam Underwood went a little deeper with the story that you can check out here:

It is rumored that freshman phenom quarterback Justin Fields is seeking his transfer from Georgia. The former 5-star completed 27-39 passes (69.2%) for 328 yards and four touchdowns while rushing for 266 yards and scoring four more times. IF TRUE, please understand the IF, Miami should do absolutely anything possible to get him on campus for a visit and make him priority #1. I don’t care if they strike out as long as they don’t go down looking with the bat on their shoulder. Go out hacking.

That’s all from me this morning. Go Canes and happy Signing Day!
