Get ready for bowl season, Canes Fans! On Sunday afternoon, the Miami Hurricanes were selected to play in the 2018 New Era Pinstripe Bowl.

Miami’s opponent in the New Era Pinstripe bowl will be a Big 10 team that has yet to be announced. We will update this piece when it has.

4:35pm UPDATE: Miami’s opponent will be the Wisconsin Badgers. This bowl game is officially a rematch of the 2017 Orange Bowl which Wisconsin won against Miami.

After concluding the 2018 season a disappointing 7-5, including a 4-4 record in the ACC, the Miami Hurricanes have earned their way to yet another bowl game. This is the 3rd consecutive bowl game in Mark Richt’s tenure as head coach. Miami previously won the 2016 Russell Athletic Bowl against West Virginia, and lost the 2017 Orange Bowl against Wisconsin in Richt’s first two bowl appearances with the Canes.

The New Era Pinstripe Bowl is scheduled to be played on December 27th at 5:15pm at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York, and will be televised nationally on ESPN. There are plenty of Canes fans in the NY area, so this will probably be a decent Canes fan showing. But, it won’t be what it could have been if Miami had been placed in the Gator Bowl as originally projected.

A relatively new bowl to the postseason landscape, this is the first time in the 9 year history of the New Era Pinstripe bowl that will feature the Canes. Previous winners of this game include Syracuse (twice), Notre Dame, Northwestern and Iowa.

Like Miami, Wisconsin supremely underachieved this season. Both teams were preseason top 10 teams, yet each finished 7-5 on the year. Wisconsin was 5-4 in Big Ten conference play, as they have 9 games. But, for a team that was viewed as a darkhorse (or better) College Football Playoff team this season, 7-5 and the Pinstripe Bowl is a disappointment for the Badgers (as it is for the Canes, but we’ve discussed that at length this season).

As has been well chronicled, Miami has struggled in bowl games recently, having gone 2-7 in the last 10 bowl games. Miami beat Nevada in the MPC computers bowl in 2006 and West Virginia in the Russell Athletic Bowl in 2016, the latter of which broke a 6 bowl game losing streak.

But, that’s in the past. The Canes are going bowling again with one goal in mind: Win.

Let’s get back on the grind and work to send the senior class off with a final victory!
